CARIBBEAN MUSEUMCENTER FOR THE ARTS  St. Croix, USVI 9/2003 – 4/2005

Founding member of Board of Directors

Helped steer startup art museum in Frederiksted toward best practices in art education, exhibition display, and public programming.  Organized and hosted educational programs like “open Slide Nights” for local artists & art enthusiasts.  Served as Treasurer for one year and raised money for the museum’s mission.

 

MUSEUM OF MODERN ART  - EDUCATION DEPARTMENT   NY,NY    1/1999-6/2001

Chairman of Volunteer Council in the Education Department

Directed the Education Department’s 60-person Volunteer program towards productive uses in preparation for the museum’s flagship location closes for a 5-year renovation project. 

+ Represented Council in discussions with UAW Union negotiators during labor strike.

+ Helped compile and edit 200 page Volunteer Manual.

Researched Mainbocher’s Navy and Marine uniforms for an exhibition catalog of the Chicago designer’s work.  Assisted Curators in sorting & deaccessioning collection items.

Performed technical research (Sevres Porcelain)  in French for the Decorative Arts Department and translated findings into English.  Edited articles and answered letters of inquiry.

Led tours in English and French of up to 12 people at FLW’s first home (built 1889) and studio located on Chicago Avenue in Oak Park.
